The Injectors Club

Help Complete the Injectors for No. 2007 Prince of Wales

Thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters, The Injector Club has already raised £38,000 towards its £50,000 target. With your help, we can complete the fundraising needed to manufacture and install the injectors that will enable No. 2007 Prince of Wales to steam.

Injectors are among the most ingenious pieces of steam locomotive engineering. With no moving parts, they use steam to force cold water into the boiler against its own pressure—keeping the locomotive supplied with the water it needs to operate safely and efficiently.

The P2 will be fitted with both a live steam injector and an exhaust steam injector. The exhaust injector is particularly sophisticated, automatically using exhaust steam from the cylinders whenever possible before switching to live steam when required. By recovering energy that would otherwise disappear up the chimney, it reduces both coal and water consumption—just one example of the P2 combining proven steam technology with improved efficiency.

The Trust has already secured a brand-new Davies & Metcalfe Monitor live steam injector, while work on the new Class K exhaust steam injector is well advanced. Using original patterns borrowed from No. 71000 Duke of Gloucester and detailed measurements from No. 70000 Britannia, the injector has been recreated using modern 3D CAD design, ready for manufacture.

To keep the P2 on course for completion, both injectors must be manufactured, assembled and ready for installation. The Injector Club was established to raise £50,000, and with £38,000 already secured, only £12,000 remains.

This Club is raising funds for the acquisition of turbo-generators for the new Gresley class P2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales. If there are surplus funds left over following the acquisition of the turbo-generators, we will use the money to buy other components for the Gresley class P2 that the charity would not otherwise have.
