Fundraising Clubs

Following the manufacture of No. 2007's cylinder monobloc, we are now developing the valve gear. Based on Lentz-Franklin, the rotary poppet valve gear will allow for greater steam efficiency and power output from the cylinders. This Club raises funds for the final major component needed for Prince of Wales.

The boiler is the beating heart of a steam locomotive and to keep the construction of No. 2007 Prince of Wales on schedule for completion within the next three years we ordered the boiler in June 2019 for delivery in summer 2024.

Progress on the construction of our new Gresley class P2 ‘Mikado’ is moving forward rapidly. Following extensively modified and improved design work,  the monobloc fabrication is now complete and delivered to Darlington. The next step is fitment within the frames.

A steam locomotive’s tender carries the coal and water essential for its operation. The tender for No. 2007 Prince of Wales is based closely on the tender built for A1 class No. 60163 Tornado. The original P2 tenders were to the 1930s non-corridor design built for the new A3 ‘Pacifics’ being built at that time.

No. 2007 Prince of Wales will require both a live and exhaust steam injector. Using a series of converging and diverging cones, a live steam injector is used to deliver cold water into the boiler against its own pressure, using its boiler steam with no moving parts.
