Earlier this year we got three 60ft panels and one and a half turnouts from of Darlington sidings. It was a difficult process as the material was tucked in a tight corner with very poor access, Corners did a great job using a tracked Hiab. The material was delivered to our site without incident and we started to assemble turnout 10 which connects the run round loop to the north end of the 1861 shed. At the start of the year further vegetation was cleared from the formation towards Honeypot Lane to allow the track to be extended at that end.
The 23rd July was a milestone day at Darlington Locomotive Works as the collective industry and heritage team join up the metalwork of the new mainline connection for the first time. Ballast laying, tamping, signage and commissioning works are still to be completed but we are on track!
