The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is an organisation like no other. From its inception, we have encouraged volunteers to do for the Trust what they do for a living, instilling an air of professionalism across the charity. The Board of Trustees are all volunteers, dedicating their time to the smooth running of this multifaceted business, from fundraising to engineering and operating trains on the main line.

As the Trust's ambitions and scale continues to grow we require, on occassion, to hire paid staff to support the administrative and engineering functions.

Director – Human Resources and Facilities Management

Based around Darlington Locomotive Works, the role leads Trust human resource (HR) and facilities’ management activities in its home town of Darlington. The incumbent will provide direct leadership to the Office Manager and admin team. They will also lead the HR work-stream, supported by the Trust’s HR consultants, ensuring the Trust’s companies’ policies and procedures, covering employees, volunteers and contractors are in place and enforced.

The Director will be required to be a Trustee of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and will report to the Council of the Trust.

Director - Finance

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is seeking an experienced Finance Director. The Director will be required to be a Trustee of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and will report to the Council of the Trust.

The post of Finance Director is responsible for ensuring that the Trust’s finance procedures are appropriate and are adhered to by both employees and volunteers and compliance with all finance legislation relevant to the Trust and its subsidiary companies. They are also responsible for ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations relating to the Charity Commission and Companies House.

COMPANY SECRETARY

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is seeking an experienced Company Secretary. They may wish to be a Trustee of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and will report to the Council of the Trust.

The Company Secretary will be a key advisor to Council on matters of corporate governance and their duties as directors, include dealing with conflicts of interest and managing the interests of supporters and other stakeholders. They will also oversee statutory maintenance of records and timely submissions of filings to Companies House.

Railtours Manager

We are looking for detail oriented Railtours Manager, to ensure we deliver a special experience for all of our passengers.

Based at Darlington Locomotive Works, the role of Railtours Manager is to oversee the customer service and administrative process of each railtour from start to finish. It is an essential role in making passengers feel welcome from the first enquiry through to booking and travelling and after care.
