Date: Friday 24th July 2026
Time: 12:30-16:00hrs
Join us at Darlington Locomotive Works for an exclusive Supporters-only event, and enjoy a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of Britain's most successful new build steam locomotive projects, as the Trust celebrates Tornado Turning 18!
Meet the Trust's Trustees, staff and volunteers, hear the latest news from the workshop, and discover the progress being made on Prince of Wales, including the recently installed crane, which is upgrading our workshop capabilities, & the pioneering 3D-printed valve gear, showcasing how traditional engineering and modern design and manufacturing techniques are coming together to build Britain's next new main line steam locomotive.
The afternoon will also include a return journey behind Tornado along our newly completed running line—an opportunity to experience the successful delivery of the P-Way project and see another important investment in the Trust's future in action. On the day, we are excited to offer footplate rides to the five top bidders in our silent auction, which also closes on the RSVP date.
The Trust shop will be open throughout the event, offering a wide range of merchandise and gifts. Tea and coffee will be available, alongside the exclusive new Tornado Beer, brewed to celebrate Tornado's 18th birthday. Supporters will also have the opportunity to hear about and pre-order the brand-new, limited-edition P2 Whisky — a fitting addition to any enthusiast's collection.
To secure your place, please RSVP by Friday 10th July using the online form below or by calling 01325 460163.
