There is something wonderful about travelling by steam in the festive season and we are pleased to be heading for the beautiful cities of Bath and Bristol.

On board, passengers can enjoy festive fare, with a Christmas Dinner presented by silver service on the return journey in First Class Dining. Mince pies and other festive favourites will be available at the buffet, and complimentary in First Class Non-Dining.

Bath has one of the biggest and best Christmas markets in the country, with many fabulous stalls at which to find those important gifts, tasty treats or just to browse and soak up the atmosphere. Bristol is a dynamic city with a bustling river side area where passengers can explore the history of this vibrant merchant port, and also offers superb shops as an alternative.

The Christmas Market at Bath

The route for our festive season special sees us depart Wolverhampton and travel via Tame Bridge Parkway, with its large free car park, before running through the suburbs and into Birmingham New Street station. From there we head south joining the former Great Western route as we call at Dorridge and Leamington Spa to pick up further passengers. Our route becomes more scenic as we travel via Oxford before heading west at Didcot. The train then travels over Brunel’s GWR, including passing through the magnificent Box Tunnel, before arriving at Bath Spa station and then onto Bristol.

Our return journey again follows Brunel’s railway, this time as far as Reading, where we say goodbye to Tornado and our train reverses behind modern traction.
