Resume of the Presentation
We have already spent over three million pounds to build the engine!
The initial funding concept was to raise small amounts of money from a lot of people, so began our motto, ‘An A1 for the price of a pint’. Thus, regular £5 monthly donations were based on a pint of beer costing £1.25 in 1990. This simple funding process was eventually to lead to nearly 3000 A1 Trust Covenantors in signing up to be part of this amazing project!
A new standalone fund named ‘Use your loaf’ has just been set up to help raise money for Tornado’s vital support coach. Please see below how you can help or join the Trust.
The construction will be illustrated using original engineering drawings and the new components. Accompanying these illustrations will be a description of the engineering behind the creation of the parts comparing the resources to hand today with those for the original engines. Our base in Darlington where the locomotive has been assembled will be shown as well as details from the testing of the locomotive on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough in 2008 and the subsequent fast mainline test runs.
Our hopes and aspirations for the future, all the latest news on Tornado’s exciting mainline and heritage line running, plus the Trust’s brand new venture to build a LNER P2 class locomotive will conclude the Presentation.
The PowerPoint slide/video presentation can be easily adjusted to suit your group meeting from 45 to 120 minutes. Q & A welcome
We do ask that a digital media projector, plus sound and screen are provided; we can usually bring our own lap-top to plug-in.
The Trust makes no charge for the lectures.
Travel expenses for the speaker, and Donations, should you wish to do so, are however, always gratefully received, and go towards the upkeep of this wonderful locomotive!
New Covenantors are most welcome to join the A1 Trust from as little as a £5 per month standing order and this regular support is invaluable.
You may wish to consider volunteering your skills to help with our fundraising, events, or even join the loco support crew.
See our superb website www.a1steam.com for tours, forthcoming events and further details on all of the above, or contact a member of the A1 Trust.

Thank you!
The Presentation will cover the creation of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust in 1990 and a brief history of the class of locomotive we have built. Note that the A1 Trust build project is a Re-creation, not a Restoration. The management of the Trust - especially the engineering side - will be covered as well as our means of fundraising.
